About us

Student Activities supports the IU mission by:

  • Providing a comprehensive support system for student organizations, leadership development and civic engagement for the Bloomington campus which results in student retention.
  • Supporting student organization efforts to augment learning.
  • Creating and enhancing an appreciation of diversity within the student organization community.
  • Promoting civic engagement on and off campus.

What do we do?

Student Activities implements various programs aimed at training, assessing, evaluating, and advising students. Some of the programs offered include:

  • annual student organization and volunteer fairs,
  • civic engagement activities such as freshman programs, Greek orientations, community-campus service initiatives
  • leadership retreats and classes
  • Greek Council retreats
  • This past year we reached over 1,200 students and student groups through 35 different programs.

Some of the participants had the following to say:

“This experience had such a positive impact on me. I have learned to be more of a positive member of, not only my organization, but the Greek community as a whole. I am able to have a positive effect on others by my own actions and behaviors.” IMPACT 2008 Retreat participant

“I think it has made me more open to diverse people and realms of thinking. A lot of interesting and powerful discussion took place and evolved over the course of the weekend, which was an intense thing. I felt that others became comfortable in hearing what I had to say (even when it involved testing commonly held beliefs), and in feeling accepted, I was able to open my mind more to the thoughts of others.” LEAD IU 2008 participant

“This experience challenged me to accept the fact that not everyone is the same. I cannot and should not expect everyone to act like me.” LEAD IU 2008 participant
